The FireFly bird diverter reduces collisions using motion, reflectivity and light emissions to alert the birds to an upcoming obstruction.
Target Birds: All bird species and bats.
Install Bird Diverter: Distribution and Transmission Power Lines.
Material: Acrylic Plastic 1/8“ x 3.5” x 7” flapper -impact-resistant and UV-stabilized. (--30 F. to 160 F.) Fluorescent Reflective Sheeting – up to 10 hour glow-in-the dark light emitted. The Firefly produces an initial light emission of 6 lumens per cubic meter which reduces to 1 lumen PCM 1-2 hours after sunset.
How It Works: The FireFly utilizes reflectance of sunlight during the daylight hours and luminescent light emission during dusk and nighttime hours. The diamond bar material causes sunlight to become refracted during daylight hours, providing a "Sparkle Effect" which can be seen by birds and humans up to one quarter of a mile distance. This sparkling and refraction of light allows the bird to change their flight pattern to divert around the marked wires and avoid collisions. Luminescent material (glow in the dark) that will emit ultra-violet and visible light up to 10 hours has been added for birds to see the product in low light and fog conditions. Birds are most vulnerable to collisions with wires during sunset and sunrise hours, especially during bad weather. Nocturnal bird migrants can see the glow material both in static and active wind conditions, which cause the FireFly to rotate throughout the nighttime hours.
Installation: Easy to install and move from the ground, bucket lift or helicopter using an installation tool on a hotstick, without cutting the power. Suitable for lines from 8 to 70 mm. See more detailed instructions here.
